Morrissey, Bauhaus, Blondie & Devo Will Headline New Cruel World Fest In LA

Today Cruel World Festival released their lineup and it just might be the best one this season. At least where we're concerned.

Goldenvoice's new, one-day festival is taking place on Saturday, May 2nd at the Dignity Health Sports Park grounds in Los Angeles, California. The headliners are Morrissey, Bauhaus, Blondie, and Devo and the rest of the lineup is a dream for any fan of musical genres that were popularized during the '80s.

With acts like Echo & the Bunnymen, English Beat, Gary Numan, Christian Death, and Violent Femmes the festival covers an impressive range of subgenres.

As any '80s music enthusiast knows, or eventually figures out, there's a lot of crossover within the genres that came about during this era. New wave and post-punk are sometimes used interchangeably or talked about to be very different things and they have a mind boggling amount of subgenres adjacent to them. But whether you're into dark wave, cold wave, gothic rock, death rock, dream pop, or ska there's multiple bands on this lineup that'll give you your fix.

Another impressive aspect of this festival is the historical range it covers. Bands that popped up in the '70s share a bill with artists that have been heavily influenced by the former.

Acts like Black Marble, Drab Majesty, Cold Cave, TR/ST, and She Wants Revenge in a way, have picked up the torch in keeping that "new wave" sound alive and have inspired younger generations to dig into the discographies of bands that were making music before they were born.

This is sure to be an event on the festival circuit you don't want to miss.

Tickets go on sale Friday, February 14th at 12:00 pm PT at CruelWorldFest.com.
