Crazy Train-Lifeguard Gets Attacked By Shark While Teaching Shark Safety

Long Island beaches have reopened for the 4th of July, one day after a lifeguard was attacked by a shark -- while teaching a class on shark safety.

The incident occurred at Smith Point, where an unidentified lifeguard was pretending to be a shark attack victim during a training exercise, according to Suffolk County rep Nicole Russo. As the lifeguard flailed about in the water, a real shark swam up and bit his chest and hand, she says. His current condition has not been revealed.

After Long Island's beaches were closed on Sunday while authorities used drones to scan the area for sharks, they were reopened at 10 a.m. Monday, Russo says.
