Journey is dealing with some intra-band drama, with the band firing bassist Ross Valory and drummer Steve Smith over a legal dispute over the band's name. Now it turns out Steve Perry may have been siding with the rhythm section.
According to reports, Perry sided with Valory and Smith, attending a Feb. 13th meeting in which they tried to take over Nightmare Productions Inc., thereby owning the name and trademark for Journey.
Whatever happened at that meeting, the move backfired and Valory and Smith were fired. Attorneys for guitarist Neil Schon and keyboardist Jonathan Cain say they are the sole owners of the Journey trademark and that Valory and Smith "cannot perform under the name Journey."
