Almost 50% of Americans have a condition that is the leading cause of heart attacks and strokes, contributes to having a harder time with COVID-19, and guess what: a lot of people don’t know they have it. You could have it right now and have no idea because it often shows no symptoms. High blood pressure! That’s why it’s known as the Silent Killer.
I went to the doctor last week and found out my blood pressure is in the “elevated” category, which means I’m likely to develop full-blown high blood pressure unless I do something to get it under control.
I was freaked out! I’m a vegan, I eat lots of fruits and vegetables, but I also do something every doctor says don’t do, I use a lot of salt. But I thought I had a pass because of the vegan thing. The extra sodium increases the volume of your blood, putting an extra burden on your heart. Likeohmygod.
