Are you planning on taking a hike with the family soon? Be aware it’s TARANTULA SEASON!
The reason tarantulas (the largest spiders in California) are emerging from their burrows right now, according to the Santa Clara Open Space Authority, is to find mates. They’re normally nocturnal but right now mature males go out in the daytime to look for love
Should you see a tarantula, observe don’t disturb! Do not pick it up. Their hair is barbed with sharp tips. Do not take a selfie, you want to keep your face away from the tarantula
If a tarantula does bite you, its venom is pretty weak, wash it with soap and water. You can use an ice pack to take down any swelling. Watch for any potential allergic reaction
