Do you know when you’re in the aisle at the grocery store with all the vegetable oils and there’s so many to choose from- safflower oil, sunflower oil, canola oil… which one is the best? Which is the healthiest? Hint: none of those! Canola, safflower and sunflower oils are all made with seeds and grains that our bodies can’t properly digest, so they have to be refined with health-depleting high heat and chemical solvents. So which oil should you choose? Extra virgin olive oil! It’s a healthy fat plus has antioxidants. So how do you select a good olive oil?
- Make sure it says extra-virgin olive oil on the label
- Choose an extra virgin olive oil that comes in a dark glass bottle, not plastic
- If you know you’re not going to finish a whole bottle within 3 to 4 weeks you can actually freeze some so it stays fresh
