“Celebrating Betty White: America’s Golden Girl” aired on NBC on Monday evening bringing her celebrity friends together to remember her life and legacy. Cher celebrated Betty with the Golden Girls theme song, "Thank You For Being A Friend."
In case you missed it, highlights from the special include a BTS skit from “The Proposal” starring Ryan Reynolds. In the skit, White calls Ryan, “Bryan” while demanding a cup of coffee, hilariously.
Joel McHale discussed how unique it was for While to star in sitcoms in three different decades with the Mary Tyler Moore Show, Golden Girls, and Hot in Cleveland. Jimmy Fallon and Tracy Morgan praised her comedic skills.
Mary Tyler Moore revealed White’s “Sue Ann” character was supposed to have a limited run on the show.
Anthony Mackie praised Betty for standing up for Black actors, “She was asked to take Arthur Duncan off the show and she said no. For her to do that in 1954 on a variety show paved the way for so many people after him,” said Mackie.
