Retired NFL quarterback Tom Brady shared a Ralph Waldo Emerson quote that referenced the "betrayal of false friends" one day after a revealing interview with his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen's was published in Vanity Fair on Wednesday (March 22).

The quote, which was posted on Brady's Instagram story on Thursday (March 23), includes the line "to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends," after initially asking "what is success?" Numerous social media users and media outlets acknowledged the timing of the post in relation to Bündchen's Vanity Fair interview in which she said her ex-husband's decision to extend his NFL career was only "one piece of a much bigger puzzle" in their decision to get divorced last year.
