The Joy of Painting was an American half-hour instructional television show hosted by painter Bob Ross which ran from January 11, 1983, until May 17, 1994. In each episode, Ross taught techniques for landscape oil painting, completing a painting in each session. During its run, it won three Emmy Awards
Well now it's coming back, in a way. You can now pick up a canvas and start painting in real time to old episodes of Bob Ross' "The Joy of Painting." "The cool thing about it is people really succeed," explains comedian Micah Sherman, who started the Bob Ross Challenge with Mark Stetson. "Bob Ross is a really good painting instructor." Bob Ross died in 1995 of lymphoma. I think he'd be proud to see this happening.
