BART Riders Now Required To Wear Face Masks Due To COVID-19

Face mask requirements go into effect around the Bay Area beginning tomorrow, Wednesday 4/22. BART has also said that they plan on complying with the new ordinance put in place by Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco and San Mateo counties. In a statement, BART said it “must take all reasonable steps to prohibit any member of the public who is not wearing a face covering from entering and must not serve the person if those efforts are unsuccessful.” BART also said they will be enforcing the new rules and will remove anyone who is not abiding by the health order.

According to BART, Police Chief Ed Alvarez will deploy officers near BART entrances and the fare gates and will give spoken reminders to anyone they see without masks. People will be asked to leave only if they refuse the order, officials said.
