The funeral for Queen Elizabeth III has been set for September 19th -- one week from Monday -- at Westminster Abbey, the palace has announced.
The queen's coffin, which is currently in the ballroom at Balmoral Castle, will be transported to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh on Sunday, according to Earl Marshal, the Duke of Norfolk. Her body will then lie in state for four days in Westminster Hall leading up to the funeral, Marshal says.
“Whilst, in the next few days, the king will carry out all the necessary state duties, his main focus will be leading the Royal Family, the nation, the Realms, and the Commonwealth in mourning Her Majesty the Queen," a palace spokesman says. "This will include meeting members of the public to share in their grief."
